| The concept for this company grew out of my experiences and observations in managing the maintenance of parks, and recreational facilities, and a lifetime of work in related fields. It seems that we were always shooting ourselves in the foot. Like most such organizations, we were always short on manpower, but the real problem was that we were constantly creating new problems. We would build a new facility, and infect it with the same mistakes we had made in the past, along with new ones. Input into the process, from maintenance managers, was ignored, and the problems continued to grow in scope and intensity. Athletic fields were poorly designed, poorly implemented, and the maintenance crews were left to try to maintain out the problems that were engineered in. Often these fields were mowed with the same mowers which had only moments before, mowed the right of ways, and the resulting Bahia grass seed, transplanted onto the fields. Large scale landscape beds were built with what I have come to term, "reverse surface drainage", the beds were dug deep into heavy clay, the proper soil amendments made, and the plants installed at or below the natural surface level, creating a nice sand filled water basin for the shrubs to languish in. These are only a few examples of what happens on a daily basis in lawns, landscapes, and other outdoor areas. That is how this company came to be. I was asked once, "Rational as opposed to...?"
