When most folks think of pest control, they are thinking about bugs in the house. Well, not all bugs are pests, and not all pests are bugs, and not all bug or pest control occurs indoors.

A pest is sometimes a weed, or weedy grass or vine or brush which is trespassing where you don't want it to be.

Some bugs are useful in getting rid of other bugs, and therefore, are not pests when they are where they should be. Even having these in your house though, might qualify them as pests.

OK, what makes a pest then? Well, a plant out of place, is a weed, and this qualifies it as a pest. A bug out of place is a pest also.

In the past few years, controlling outdoor pests has become a bigger problem than in the past, and even though it has normally been handled by lawn and landscape personnel when it was in a lawn or landscape, or farmers when it was needed in a farm setting, it has reached a stage where it has become it's own category. Another issue that has come into play is the increase in "non native" or "non indigenous" "invasive species" that we are now dealing with, particularly in our ponds and lakes. More and more of these "alien pests" are arriving all the time, and even this is becoming a field all it's own.
